Itoi, who directed the game, wanted it to reach non-gamers with its intentionally goofy personality. Themed around an idiosyncratic portrayal of Americana and Western culture, it subverted popular role-playing game traditions by featuring a real world setting while parodying numerous staples of the genre. Its staff contained involvement from a number of Japanese luminaries including writer Shigesato Itoi, songwriter Keiichi Suzuki, sound designer Hirokazu Tanaka, and future Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. The game faced a lengthy development time spanning five years.
EarthBound was released in Japan on August 27, 1994, and in North America on June 5, 1995. It is the second game of the Mother series, and the only one to be released in the English language. As Ness and his party of four, the player travels the world to collect melodies en route to defeating the evil alien force Giygas. He also made the easy ring, which I personally don't use, but for anyone who doesn't like how RPGs felt in those days it helps a little.EarthBound, known as Mother 2 in Japan, is a 1994 Japanese role-playing video game co-developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. He did a much better job on it, and as a result it's a lot more enjoyable. The original Nintendo translation is really bad for a lot of reasons, (censorship, inaccurate translations, plot points being left out, etc) and the fan translation was done by Tomato, who also worked on the MOTHER 3 fan translation. Personally, I think that the fan translation is most true to the game. Like the MOTHER 2 international localization, Nintendo hardly cared about working on the game and just sent what they had in a functional condition. However, there is minimal difference between Earthbound Zero and Beginnings. The third is Earthbound beginnings, which is technically supposed to be the localization of MOTHER 1. If you're using a GBA rom, that's the one you've got. The second is a fan translation patch which is applied to Mother 1+2. If you're using an NES rom, that's the one you've got. The first is Earthbound, nicknamed Earthbound Zero due to obvious reasons. (actually, there are only two technically, but three names get passed around) There's only three versions of English MOTHER 1, and two which exist on the internet.
